it measures the outcome of a production run after the product has been made and classified. The operational failure and its financial consequence are already locked in before the score is calculated.
Business impact
- Triggers a 'chaos tax' of unplanned rework, secondary channel management, and excess handling costs to clear downgraded inventory before it becomes a total write-off.
- Creates a phantom inventory position where the ERP shows stock is available, but it is not the primary grade required to fulfil top-tier customer orders, leading to last-minute service failures.
